A story ran titled "We're bloggers - we get stuff for free" in the Dec 1, 2009 Boston Globe. Although not exclusively about music bloggers, there was a group photo of some Boston area bloggers, including Ryan from "Ryan’s Smashing Life" (rslblog.com), a very cool rock blog.

Did you guys hear about the new rule?

Jeff, I know nothing about this, I have probably received about 800 CDs to review over the last 8 years. I have written negative reviews on artists and still received more Cds. Sometimes I need a break from this onslaught, My regular publicists are understanding, but I do not know how some people get my address. I write mostly for www.countrystarsonline.com ,but they never send me anything to review, I have to depend on my sources. I got a 35 dollar pick to review, which is on my blog. The Blue chip Pick. Somebody critcized me about it.

You know what, if you do things the right way, you will have lots of critics and lose friends, make friends, but you must stay to your convictions, Which is I will always give an honest review. I guy told me when I was getting started, that He would write whatever a publicist wanted if they paid him. I have never been paid, but my reviews are something that are worth something. I am always trying new stuff in reviewing, I used to have a goal that I would write for a mag someday. I don't know if that will ever happen, but I love bluegrass, alt/country and country rock music, and I can get the Cds I want, if I review them. About that article, How do newspaper Cd reviewers review stuff, from mp3s. I know there is a movement towards this, but mp3s do not sound good to me and not like the product sold. I am not worrying about tbhat stuff and don't you either, you are not doing anything illegal.
