I was looking over the shows for this week and found a number of interesting ones.
Probably, the “show of the week” is the Guthrie Family show at UCLA on Feb. 16. While Arlo is best known, his daughter Sarah Lee and her husband Johnny Irion have been making some mighty fine music over the last several years.
Other notable local shows this week include
Guitarist extraordinaire Bill Frisell at Largo April 13
Hillbilly Noir-ist Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs at Spaceland April 14
Lady Antebellum at the Wiltern April 15
Folk icon Buffy Sainte-Marie at the Bootleg Theatre April 15
Two-Tone Ska heroes The Specials at Club Nokia April 15
Singer-songwriter Mason Reed at Santa Monica’s Enterprise Fish Company April 16
Pieta Brown is opening for Mark Knopfler at the Pantage April 16-17
And Mr. Steve Forbert returns to McCabe’s on April 17,

The Grassroots Acoustica Tribute to Emmy Lou Harris
Emmylou Edition flyer.jpg
Maybe we should call it Grassroots Iconica.

With nearly 2 dozen performers calling dibs on roughly 3 dozen tunes, April 10th's Boulder To Birmingham Edition celebrates Emmylou Harris' (belated) birthday with the kind of catalog comb that Grassroots Acoustica's becoming known for (Santa Monica Mirror, for example, called our yearly Nicolette Larson commemoration "a Rhino-worthy retrospective"). The 3-hour hip-hip-hooray raises pledges for our friend Rique's participation with Team JiggyWiggits in Walk MS 2010 benefiting the local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Rique, perhaps the only lineup guest to have recorded with Emmylou, has visualized a personal fundraising goal of $10,000 in sponsorship for this year's walk. To help him, Emmylou, who has a cousin with multiple sclerosis, has offered up one of her stage garments for auction as well as autographed Grassroots Acoustica posters featuring Rique's never-before-published photo, one of which will be available night of show. eBay details on other auction items to be announced shortly.

If you're unable to attend Grassroots Acoustica's Tribute To Emmylou but would like to support Rique & Team JiggyWiggits in their steps toward a world free of MS, please do so directly at:
