Starring DENISE MOURGES. As a teenage dancer, Denise opened for THE ROLLING STONES their first concert in America. Then, she opened for THE BEATLES at Shea Stadium and on their U.S tour that same year (1965). She danced on TV’s "Hullabaloo." As a bicoastal, envelope-pushing Rock-and-rollian, Denise became friends with many musicians, including Jimi Hendrix and Gram Parsons. Denise says, "I learned a lot about music from them, spending hours in studios as they made records still relevant, fresh and alive." Later, Denise wrote on music, law, medicine and lifestyle for Entertainment Weekly and The New York Times. Accompanied by friends, Denise sings a selection of torch songs that she has chosen because they “reveal a core human bond transcendent of borders: the broken heart.” Accompanying Denise are:
+
JOHN HUG on acoustic and electric guitars. John has been in on the creation of over 300 LPs, working with a roster of talent spanning Don Henley, Cher, Eddie Kendricks, Waylon Jennings, Jackie De Shannon, Gregg Allman and Burt Bachrach. His production credits include songs from the soundtrack LP for the movie "Ghostbusters" and Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane.
+
JANA LEE ROSS, pianist and musical director. Jana (pronounced jay-na) is Musical Director of KCME classical radio in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a vocalist / pianist, Jana performs regularly in that city, often with her jazz combo HIDDEN AGENDA.
+
Plus, a fund-raising SILENT AUCTION of very classy "Objets d’ Heart" happens in conjunction with the show. (See the Guide’s listing for examples):

2) PATTY LARKIN CELEBRATES 25 YEARS IN MUSIC WITH AN ALL-STAR CD
Beginning Sunday, Feb 14 - Valentine’s Day - and each day leading up to its March 9 release, fans can tune in to www.PattyLarkin.com and hear one new song each day from “25,” Patty’s new 25th anniversary CD. The double CD is a collection of Patty’s 25 most-requested love songs from her 25 years in music, recorded with 25 special guests… hence, the title, “25.” Each day, Patty will share details about that day’s song and do a guest spot on Facebook and Twitter.
+
A variety of guests will join her as she tours the new album this Spring. Who? Well, the guests on the new album include Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bruce Cockburn, Dar Williams, Suzanne Vega, Roseanne Cash, John Gorka, Chris Smither, Greg Brown, Janis Ian, David Wilcox, Jonatha Brooke, Janis Ian, Lucy Kaplansky, Catie Curtis, and more.

3) UNIQUE VALENTINE FOR THE ONE WHO HAS EVERYTHING…
Twenty years ago on Valentine’s Day, the Voyager 1 spacecraft took one last farewell photo that NASA calls “Voyager’s Valentine to the Solar System.” The intrepid little robot, including its gold phonograph record of “Earth’s Greatest Hits,” had sailed beyond the outermost planet in our solar system. Scientists turned its camera inward to snap a series of final images - its parting valentine to the string of planets it called home.
+
Mercury was too close to the sun to see, Mars showed only a thin crescent of sunlight, and Pluto was too dim, but Voyager was able to capture cameos of Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Earth and Venus from its unique vantage point. These images, later arranged in a large-scale mosaic, make up the only family portrait of our planets arrayed about the sun. It had taken more than 12 years to reach the place where it took the group portrait, 6 billion kilometers (almost 4 billion miles) away from the sun.
+
So, if your sweetie has everything else, or just plain wants something you can’t afford, you can download a Valentine taken by Voyager and make that your unique gift. It’s available free at www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2010-048&cid=release_2010-048

The Burlington Family will be doing their thing tomorrow, February 12th at the M Bar in Hollywood, 10:30 pm. The M Bar is a retro-inspired supper club, with good Italian food. You’ll definitely get a feeling for old Los Angeles. Sharing the bill with us is Jinx, a native Southern Californian roots rocker, with an exciting style and chops to spare.

2) BLUESMAN DADDY BONE IS RELATED TO – THE QUEEN?
Yep, it seems that Mike “Daddy Bone” Boning has a tale of royal connections. Well, sort of. He says, “My oldest daughter Hanna is going to be the Queen at the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire here in L.A. That's right, Queen Elizabeth Regina Gloriana etc. etc. etc. Woohoo! I mean Huzzah! Hanna has been acting in plays since she was 13 and she has been at the Renaissance Faire since she was 3 days old. This is the first Queen E to have been a bonafide faire brat! If you have ever wanted to go to the Renaissance Faire, this is the year to do it. It's Saturdays & Sundays, April 10-May 23, from 10 am-7 pm at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in beautiful Irwindale, California. If you go to the faire website, you can probably find some discount ticket promotions. But do it soon. The closer it gets to faire time, the harder it is to find bargains.” The site is www.renfair.com/socal

3) WILLIAM JACOBSON, WESTERN MUSIC ASSOCIATION (WMA) CO-FOUNDER, MAKES HIS LAST RIDE
Lindalee Green, president of the California Chapter of the WMA, sent us the news: “Bill Jacobson (1957-2010) passed away this week after a brief illness. Bill was a founding member of the Western Music Association. At the initial meeting in Las Vegas in 1988, volunteers were needed to launch a publication that would pick up where the Sons of the Pioneers newsletter left off. It would broaden the scope of coverage to include new music releases, articles of historical interest, and help bring together musicians and fans who were interested in preserving and continuing Western music. Bill Jacobson & Mary Rogers volunteered. As Gary McMahan says, Bill fanned the embers when Western music had started to fade, until there was a small flame and Western music could take hold again.”
+
“Until Bill had brain surgery and his illness took its toll, leading to his retirement from involvement in Western music activities, he was instrumental in spreading the word about Western music, both classic and contemporary. With their journal, ‘Song of the West,’ Bill and Mary set the standard and led the way for the WMA to launch publications that gradually developed a professional look that has helped promote the image of the WMA. He was talented and very knowledgeable, but more importantly, he was a good guy. His memorial service is Thursday, February 4th at 12:30 PM at the Allnutt Funeral Home in Fort Collins, CO.”
