The Grateful Dead have a large influence in their music, ranging from country to rock, a little jazz, this band is very talented and were never destined for fame. But they picked up quite a bit on the way. Touring for Thirty years and recording every show is quite incredible, I remember back in the tape trading days ,getting my hands on a good soundboard tape to what we have today thru their site and Rhino records, their new release method. Rhino is a classy label who does a Great job with Dead releases, including remastering all of their studio CDs to HDCD, they really sound good, The latest CD set I bought was "To Terrapin", a very hi quality full concert.
Last week I thought I would get 1 remastered Beatles CD to have one , I do not have any Beatles in my collection. The two I bought sounded nothing like the quality that Rhino does, now maybe the tapes were not in good condition, they are very loud, and for some reason, removed a lot of the reverb and effects, These albums were great on vinyl, but not so hot imo, on this highly touted rerelease.

I was fifteen years old and I went to Orlando from the other side of the pond. I took a walk looking for some music store. I had it clear: Live Dead 70-71 and Flyng Burrito Brothers compilation "Farther Along". Still is clear for me after thirty years.
I always hold this as the biggest musical mistake of my life. 95' RFK, the Dead's last tour before Jerry died and with Dylan sharing the bill no less. I was a bright faced kid who took the journey from NC with some friends, we got there early and unexpectedly set up camp smack in the middle of shakedown street and were locked in for three days. I was more into the Beatles and early Pink Floyd type music at that point and after loosing my face on some serious psychedelics, me and my friends convinced ourselves that we weren't going to go in to the shows. We spent three days wondering around the parking lots on a bummer. Of course in the following years after that show I become a huge fan and Jerry dies...along with my only opportunity to see the them with Jerry. It has plagued me ever since, doh :/
