Wow, I've finally discovered who Gram Parsons is on Facebook! Arick and I had quite a discussion wondering who it might be! Keep it going strong there Kyle! However, for the record, the official Facebook for the Gram Parsons Petition Project & Gram National is http://www.facebook.com/inductgramparsons - but welcome, the more the merrier!
This thread is copied from the official Gram Parsons Facebook page run by his estate management (please correct me if that's wrong). They were answering questions re: Gram, and I had asked about the estate's feelings about the Petition. This was their response and 60 followups (please excuse formatting, I'm not fixing all that!).

Gram Parsons ‎@Will James- Question: What does management think of the Petition to Induct Gram Parsons into the Country Music Hall of Fame, with 3,300 signers from around the world so far? Will we see more coverage of it here and on the official gramparsons.com when launched? Answer: We support the petition and are doing everything ...we can to get Gram inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame where he belongs.

Stephen Ebrey Gram Parsons may have been considered radical in the 60s with his long hair and willingness to play with rockers, but GP made more traditional country music than almost anyone performing today. He should be in the country music hall of fame!

Jim Skinner Unless Nashville has changed drastically since my time living there, not going to happen, and with all due respect to Gram, there are others who have been overlooked as well. Nashville is still a closed shop unless you fit into their idea of what's country.

Jennifer S. Guinn The sun came up without him, it just didn't know he was gone... He changed so many of us and we never knew it was him. From Honky Tonk Woman, Rolling Stones' country influence to Emmylou to the Eagles to Elvis Costello... too many influences to count really, and no way to say, "Thank you Gram."

Denise Culton I have to agree.Country has a backlog of deserving people and Gram is one of them but it will be harder for him to get in until a new generation of Powers That Be take the reigns and measure him on his impact rather than "protect" country which has changed so many times as to be non existent.

Ross Mandell do you really care what the country music hall of fame does? Its all just Nashville main stream pop country these days. They don't even have Keith Whitley there. Gram, like Keith, stands on his own and spending energy to get him accepted into the Country Music Hall of Fame is going against the grain of who he really was.

Mary Lynn The CMHOF has their own twisted agenda . . . don't hold your breath. Nudie is not in the CMHOF - Oh wait - yeah he is - more than half the stuff in there (and anything worth looking at IMHO) is made by him. He may not have a plaque on the wall, but it is HIS hall.

If induction into the "Hall of Fame" were based on merit (e.g., talent, creativity, influence on the genre, etc.), then by all means, GP should be inducted.
If, on the other hand, it's just a seal of approval from an ideologically and creat...ively constipated establishment, then by all means, keep him out! He's too good for that.See More

The CMHF, CMA and ACM are all tools of an industry run by greedy fork-tongued reptiles. If John Nuese, who brilliantly produced the Grammy nominated "The Gram Parsons Notebook...The Last Whipoorwill" couldn't generate enough interest for a ...major label distribution deal, why would anyone believe the CMHF would induct Gram?
John has been working tirelessly to rerelease this magnificent tribute to GP, and is very close to a deal with an independant label. Hopefully, he will bypass the idiots who perpetuate the erosion of real Country Music. Who needs 'em?See More

Dave Griffin The ghost of Roy Acuff is standin' right in the door! After Gram pulled out Hickory Wind during the 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' Byrds Grand Ol' Opry performance back in the 60s, he royally pissed off the good ol' boys of Nashville. God bless him for havin' the guts to do what he did! Whether he actually ever makes it into the Hall of Fame, the whole world knows he was one talented and deserving boy. Thanks for fannin' the flame, Will.

gram like Keith Whitley did what they wanted to do, and they succeeded artistically beyond anyone else. Gram was playing purer country music than anyone else at the time. Country was awash with the stringy, sticky, Nashville sound. To...day's pop country is mopre like bad rock and roll than anything to do with Hank Williams. That a rock and roller like Gram showed them up and scared the powers that be, including that dim witted stick in the mud, Ralph Emery. Gram Parsons is in a country music hall fame of his own.

Also check out the other Byrd, Gene Clark's unique blending of rock Bluegrass and traditional country. Try it. You will like.See More

Ross Mandell Fellow Byrd Chris Hillman has always had a motto for music. "Play what you love and don't worry about record sales. Leave a big footprint and 30 years from now people will still be buying your records." Look at the top 40 when Ralph Emery was belittling Gram and the Byrds. Now whose records are still being played?

Michael J. Rouillier Yes, I did see Gram's classic "pills & pot" Nudie suit at the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, hell will probably freeze over before he is inducted and his name is on the wall. "Rascal Flatts" will probably be included before Gram. I hate playing Nashville, and I hate their current work product.

Another example of Assvilles "holier than thou" self-righteously piosity...Hank Williams was expelled from the Grand Ole Opry in 1952(for showing up too drunk to perform) with the promise that "he could come back once he cleaned up his act...." The "Mother Church of Country Music" (the Ryman Theater), and WSM, the longest running radio show (weekly broadcast of Grand Ole Opry performances every Saturday night) in the history of radio, still have a problem on having Hank Sr. "back in the circle". Hank never got the chance to redeem himself, having died in 1953. The Grand Ole Opry's offical position is "active members have to be living, and to contribute to preservation of its rich musical legacy and actively participate in Opry meetings and other duties." In their offical press release on this matter, past president Pete Fisher said "we will never reinstate a dead man." But on their website they have Hank among members from the 1940's. So if isn't a member, why is he listed on thier website??? And on Hanks 50th anniversary show , they broadcasted it on tv. Hank is to Assville as Elvis is to Memphis; he is a valuable commodity to Opryland and one of their most honored and celebrated artist. He never got the chance to redeem himself; but was recently awarded a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for "a songwriter played a pivotal role in transforming country music into a major musical and cultural force in American life." Ain't it a shame about these two greats and Assville's attitude towards them. Sorry for ramblin' on, but on these two artist situation, it "gets my dander up"... See More

Rick Barton The line has always been blurry...listen to Memphis blues and you hear it's unmistakeable "Church Music" origin. I'd like to see all of the country rock pioneers inducted...from Gram and Buffalo Springfield (and all of it's offspring) to the more "folk"ey people, like James Taylor and Carol King. Aren't the Eagles already inducted? If so, we "skipped" some folks!
