Americana and roots music - No Depression

The Americana and roots music authority

OK, I know there are a lot of these out there. But this is a bit different. As y'all know, I'm into getting Gram into the CMHOF, that's "C" for "Country." I don't hear a lot of *country*!! in most Americana lists I've seen. My point is that Gram Parsons was *Country* first and foremost (not all agree). If you agree and understand the fine point I'm trying to make here, who's carrying the torch?

Ben Kweller 'Changing Horses' has a certain GP feel to it.

Jayhawks 'Hollywood Town Hall' when released sounded like the type of music GP would have been playing had he still been around.

Some of Ryan Adams & The Cardinals..... Cold Roses / Jacksonvile City Nights

Son Volt 'American Central Dust'.... GP influences?

Emmylou Harris' first four albums of course

No groundbreaking suggestions with any of the above... maybe some sound like GP, maybe sound like The Byrds, possibly it's the steel guitar.

Sometimes I wonder do we go over the top in immortalising Gram Parsons. D
on't get me wrong... Love his solo work, Sweethearts of the Rodeo etc but think his greatest contribution to 'country' music was his vocal harmonies with Emmylou Harris. Yet to be surpassed.

Whiskeytown's Faithless Street is so Gram and other Ryan Adams music as well. Steve Earle too when Chris Hillman and Steve did High Fashion Queen. I can hear Gram singing "Faithless Street" I am very struck by Whiskeytown - so good. Thanks for the other suggestions I want to check them out too.

I am very impressed. Too bad he's not in Boston Nov 5 or 6, I'd invite him and his band to play Gram National.

Thanks...Hope others will hear Jacksons music as well & like it. A strong influence beside Gram was/is of course his name sake Jackson Browne as well as Dylan,Townes, Steve Earle...Ryan Adams! All these artist do share many of the same roots music foundation & depth of lyric.
