Many fine memories of Scorchers shows. First time I caught them some lady was chatting me up as they started into BROKEN WHISKY GLASS and I was totally concentrating on how they were going to switch gears and take off (when they did it pretty much blew the lady in question away which was fine by me ... I'm quite happily married). Second or third time the band had had their equipment stolen in Ottawa (Jason declared our national capital to be an "evil, evil town") so they played the show with rented gear. Warner did not have his radar controlled, cordless guitar and amp so had to play with a cord connected ... this only partially cramped his style ... when he swung the guitar over his shoulder he had to untangle himself before resuming his solos. The last time I saw them I passed Perry Baggz on the stairs while we were visiting the loo and tapped him on the shoulder and gave him a thumbs up ... he smiled back. I've heard that Perry had some health problems and I see that in their latest line-up he's not included ... hope he's okay.

With band as I described them earlier ... mix of country, metal, E-Street and glam (though Jeff seems to be the glam rocker that time).
Saw the Scorchers a bunch back in college, late 80's edition. They played a couple different clubs in Columbia, SC, but the shows I remember most were when they played a spring concert show outdoors on one of the USC intramural fields...their opening act was the Georgia Satellites, just after their soon-to-be huge album came out. Satellites were good, but Jason was on fire, leaping off the P.A. and nearly falling off the stage several times. Sadly, the Scorchers came back either the next year or the year after that, as the opening act for....Survivor. (saddest part was that 90 percent of the crowd that year left after the Scorchers set.)
I saw Jason and the Scorchers open for REM at the Fox Theater in Atlanta for REM's Fables of The Reconstruction tour around 1985-86. The Scorchers set was jaw-dropping great. I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single person in that place was dancing like they'd lost their mind....even the very back rows. JATS absolutely crushed it. After their set, I remember thinking that even if REM didn't show up, I still got my moneys worth. After REM"S set, I was thinking that they probably shouldn't have. JATS set was hands down THE most energetic and entertaining concert I've ever been to.
