Thoughts?

I'm most interested in Elvis Costello/Band of Heathens, Steve Earle and Heartless Bastards. I'm also interested in Them Crooked Vultures , a supergroup made up of Dave Grohl (drums), Josh Homme (guitar) and John Paul Jones (bass) -- taping tonight according to @acltv twitter.

I've seen some complaints online about Kenny Chesney. I'd probably bypass DMB myself. [Fwiw, unless your a DMB fan, the video "Regrets: Dave Matthews Band" is a riot]

Great to see the Andrew Bird/St Vincent bill. Is Kristoffereson making a comeback of some sort? Or have I just been oblivious to his public face in recent years. K'naan is amazing in any context. Don't know why I'm a bit surprised to see him here. That's ACL for you! Pearl Jam and Madeleine Peyroux. Can't say I'm that excited about Dave Matthews Band.
The Austin City Limits studio is also being designated as a landmark by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That's pretty cool.

I don't really follow Kristofferson myself, but yes he does have a new album (see website). From the buzz I've heard, it's supposed to be very good.
It's been some time since I checked, but he was doing a lot of political songs for awhile, and the last I recall he came out with some re-recordings of his classics and such. Sorta thought he was trying to get into the Johnny Cash style revival, but not sure on that. I'd like to check out what he's up to now.
Once, when I was trying to explain to somebody what the Americana genre us, they looked confused. Then I said, "Austin City Limits!" They immediately got it. Okay, so maybe this was a conversation I was having by myself (with my voices) but the fact remains that it was ACL that first exposed me to John Prine, to Billy Joe Shaver, to Townes Van Zant, to Steve Goodman, and so many others. The reason I use three names (Chris Jay Becker) has a lot to do with the great Texas songwriters that ACL introduced me to, like Shaver, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jimmie Dale Gilmore. You get the idea.

Austin City Limits was here BEFORE 'Prairie Home Companion,' BEFORE 'O Brother, Where Art Thou' and hopefully it will still be going for many years to come!
Austin City Limits provided much of my musical education. It is the ONLY place I was exposed to a lot of great acts, which led me to other great artists. I have it on automatic series recording on my DVR still. Most recently I saw the Drive By Truckers which was great because I only recently got into them. Really liked their performance on ACL, only complaint was it wasn't long enough :)

Thanks for posting this.
I'm an equal opportunity person as far as ACL is concerned, but I don't really get the appeal of Kenny Chesney. For that matter I don't get the appeal of most mainstream country at all. I think Robert Earl Keen said it best in this little performance captured on YouTube
I'm looking forward to M. Ward, Elvis Costello, Band of Heathens, Allen Toussaint, Steve Earle and most of all K'naan. ACL has their finger on the pulse of all music that is essential. One might not appreciate what they feature from time to time but that does not make what they feature any less important to the big picture. Thank you so much for posting the schedule!
