Talkin' Blues was a favorite songwriting form of Woody Guthrie, and all of his followers have used it -- Pete Seeger, Dylan, Arlo were masters of the form, but I think that Phil was the best at it. He had a savage wit, he was a great picker, and he understood the tricky timing of a talkin' blues and how to pull it off naturally. I recently tried my hand at one and slandered one of my favorite targets -- the "Tea" Party....

"Talkin' Cuban Crisis" was always my favorite of Phil's talking blues.

Another master of the form (although he rarely used it) was Johnny Cash.
