Just wondering when you begin taking the Christmas records down from the shelf. For me personally, I usually wait until Thanksgiving.

Feel free to mention some favorites here are well. I'll get the ball rolling with Joan Baez's Noel, a beautiful collection of somewhat lesser known folk songs with a holiday theme. John Fahey's album is great as well.

Never - Bah ! Humbug !
When my wife starts playing it. I don't think I ever actually choose on my own to listen to Christmas music. Last Train Home has a nice one, though.
Right at about the 5th of July when the retail stores start playing it!

One definite favorite is Vaughn Monroe's version of Let It Snow.

A favorite of ours is Brave Combo's record "It's Christmas Man!" Very fun arrangements and includes a straight up, gorgeous version of Ave Maria. We see them live each December and their Christmas shows are a ton of fun, blending in Christmas music with their regular music and occasionally Hava Nagila since it's usually around Hanukkah. Which reminds me, Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song is always fun to hear during December.
Adam, needs to be in the 20s(December) before I dare listen to any Christmas music and then I'll listen to Low-Christmas...this is not an album for the festive party. This is for people who spend Christmas alone, for those who hate the over commercialised mania of the holidays (Steviedial you might like this!) and want to wallow! Stark but lovely.
If not this then it's got to be the Spector Christmas record .
If you like that one check out the Bright Eyes Christmas EP.
Thanks Adam, I will...I have some Bright Eyes stuff but didn't know Conor Oberst had done a Christmas EP
I believe it was done for a charity about 10 years ago, so it is some of his really early stuff.
I love Christmas music, but I hardly ever think to pull out Christmas albums unless I'm decorating or throwing a party (which is invariably after Thanksgiving). I just enjoy it and sing along if it's on the speakers in the bar/store/restaurant.

BUT when I do pull out the Christmas albums, I love the Asylum Street Spankers Christmas disc, and wound up listening to Dylan's 'Christmas in the Heart' a lot last year. I also love Barbra Streisand's Christmas album.
my mom died a long time ago and her favorite was jim nabors. yes, gomer pyle. she used to play him all season long. now, among my siblings, these are the absolute favorite. the cd's are hard to find and if any of us finds one we buy it on the spot. he's really a darn good singer. btw, he still sings "back home again in indiana" before the indianapolis 500 and, if you're from indianapolis as i am, it still gives me goosebumps.
Thanks for sharing and if Jim Nabors can bring back memories of your mom I'm pretty sure Gomer'd say "Shazam!"
One Christmas, my sister Brigid gave me a cassette as a stocking stuffer. On one side was an album of bluesy Christmas songs done by Alligator Records artists. The other side had another blues Christmas album called Blue Yule, which featured perfomances by Lightnin' Hopkins, Sonny Boy Williamson, John Lee Hooker and others. All good stuff.
Never intentionally.
