On the player right now and sounding superb is the Jerry Garcia Merl Saunders Band complete Keystone recordings from the summer of 1973. Garcia's tone here is just exceptional.

Turnpike Troubadours, Goodbye Normal Street: Many people in the ND community have raved about Goodbye Normal Street, so I finally put it into my Amazon basket, and discovered why everyone was so enthusiastic about this band. Wonderful album. Thanks to everyone who recommended it!
The Vaccines, Come of Age: Good stuff. I love Brit rock and despite the lukewarm reviews from many critics, I think the Vaccines are one of the best young bands going. This album is a significant step up from their debut.

"Tempest"-----------BOB DYLAN....any album that can include tunes about the Titanic and John Lennon at the same time gets my interest...another 5-star from Bob...over 70 and still rockin' and rhymin' for us...thanks Bob...
"When I'm President"---IAN HUNTER...Ian continues his streak of winners with this release...another guy over 70 who is still putting out amazing NEW music....Ian's strength has always been his songwriting, coupled with a love of straightforward rocking and rolling....
Permalink Reply by Brendan Cooke on November 19, 2012 at 5:10am great review Stevie of a special album...the liner notes are pretty heartfelt too! Beautiful on all levels and a definite contender for Best of 2012.
Permalink Reply by Easy Ed on November 19, 2012 at 5:18am Just because Iris waited 16 years to release another album, not counting the gospel one from 8 years ago, doesn't classify this new one as a comeback. She never left. Played gigs, lived her life, did her thing. Like fine wine, she aged.
Permalink Reply by David Stephens on November 20, 2012 at 5:28pm I see your point Ed, but 16 years is also a long time to say she never left...3 albums of original material in 5 years or so and then nada, except for the Gospel standards from her youth CD she put out...I know I have missed her...nobody writes and sings exactly like Iris...I hope she is back in the music making business to stay for awhile...

Iris Dement-Sing The Delta
The Allah-La's debut album
Lindi Ortega-Cigarettes and Truckstops
John Murry-The Graceless Age
Tift Merritt-Travelling Alone
and one from 1996 The Vigilantes of Love compilation VOL (BTW Bill Mallonee's new album out this week!)
I like the John Murry one, good album. He's supporting Cowboy Junkies soon , in Glasgow anyway.
Also, didnt know there was a Vigilantes Of Love compilation , i'll try and get that. I only have one of theirs.
Also, if you like Allah Las (too studied and derivative for me) , try The Dreaming Spires , similar influences but fresher and with more spirit.
Permalink Reply by Brendan Cooke on November 20, 2012 at 8:45am yes, I have looked at The Dreaming Spires album but wasn't sure so nice to get a solid recommendation!
