Doesn't have to be a great revelation. Doesn't have to change the year in music. Could be old. Could be new. Just has to do it for this week. So what is doing it for you this week?

TenLayers you hit the nail on the head. It's not often I could stand to listen to three consecutive CD's by one artist, but Sam Baker's trilogy begs to be played one after the other. "Cotton's" going in my top ten for this year. His first two should be included even though they are older releases. While "mercy" , "pretty world" and "cotton" stand on their own merits, listening to all three in a row is a revelation.
I cant stop listening to Roy Harpers album-" Death Or Glory", his son, Nick, plays on quite a bit of the album. But one track in particular just leaves me speechless, track 8)Miles Remains-stunning
Reading your comment has me playing Roy Harper all day! ...one of my favourite artists from the 70's & 80's. Agreed, Miles Running is classic but for me his best work is HQ from 1975. Saw him touring that album in 1976 and I still reckon it was one of favourite concerts of many from then to the present.
Live from the Axis Mundi by Gogol Bordello. A live DVD plus a CD compilation of outtakes and BBC performances -- including an explosive version of "American Wedding."

But right now on the radio I'm listening to a live Bobby Darrin version of "Alone Again Naturally." And I love it.
Well being in Florida, where music (live or store bought) isnt that great, I'd have to say by far based on what I can buy locally is Kris Kristofferson (Closer to the bone) and Robert Earl Keen (The Rose Hotel).
I bought Kris' album not long after it came out. AMAZING. Long been a fan more of his classics than anything else (just haven't gotten to his actual albums. I highly recommend the album to everyone. The vocals and the lyrics are both outstanding. "Hall of Angels" made me cry the first time I heard it (And still can sneak up on me). The booklet of lyrics is even on really good thick, quality paper. AMAZING! Go get it! You wont regret it.
BTW Jeff: I live in a small town. It's 45 minutes to the nearest city though ther eis a Walmart 25 minutes away. Ebay is my best friend music-wise!
"We Used To Think The Freeway Sounded Like a River" by Richmond Fontaine
A brilliant album to add to their exceptional body of work.'A Letter To The Patron Saint Of Nurses' maintains their standard of excellent closing tracks on all their albums.
Favorite this week is Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session.
I'm not sure how much attention this record got outside of Canada way back in '88,
but it's well worth a listen now.
Roman Candle's "OH TALL TREE IN THE EAR". Caught the Lake Fever Sessions video for the cut "Why Modern Radio is A-OK" here on ND . Loved it. Listened to others on VIMEO. Ordered the CD and it's a killer. It's high on my top ten for this year. Pop? Maybe. But any band from North Carolina is going to have a lot more than just pop music going on. Great lyrics, nicely layered production by Jason Lehning. Killer hooks. This could stay in rotation in my walkman for quite a while. The ep singles they have for download on their site are filled with killer b-sides also. And while it's not on any CD or EP yet, the video on VIMEO for their cover of the Faces "Glad and Sorry" is perhaps the best Ronnie Lane cover I've ever heard. Worth checking out.
Cotton by Sam Baker. As a companion piece to his Mercy and Pretty World CDs, it completes the trilogy in perfect fashion. I absolutely LOVE everything about these three cds. Sam is a blessing to the (music) world.
