Remember in 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' when Damone tells Mike Ratner to "whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV" on a date to guarantee some smoochin'? Well, it doesn't work, but I was thinking what are some Americana/roots albums that are perfect for first (or early) dates. Usually jazz or soul are go-to genres for the situation, but what roots music (bands, albums, songs) fits the bill?

1. The Wailin' Jennys-Firecracker
2. Jimmy LaFave-Cimarron Manifesto
3. Storyhill-self titled
4. Justin Townes Earle-Midnight at the Movies
5. Old Crow Medicine Show-self titled
6. Chuck Prophet-Soap & Water
7. Wilco-A.M. or Being There
8. Ryan Adams-Cold Roses
9. Rhett Miller-self titled
10. Neil Young-On the Beach (arguably 'Americana' but damn good nonetheless)

Thanks Sean. I like The Grateful Dead suggestions.

I forgot about the Jayhawks. Good choice.
I really think that record is one of those early 90s Americana gems. Some real Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers moments on that one.
I feel like we should compile everyone's responses into one killer mix.

Brandon - Maybe that's a new direction for RHR...
Red House "Mixes for romancin'" I like it!

Okay, I don't know if Joni Mitchell could be considered Americana (Canadicana?), but I have definitely made out while "Blue" was spinning on the turntable. Also "Broken Things" by Julie Miller.
Oh yes! Neil Young is, along with Dylan, one of THE Godfathers of Americana (American) music.
my choice of music rarely inspires conversation amongst my friends, let alone mekkin' oot.
I would think something by Neko would fit the bill. Perhaps Gillian Welch - Time The Revelator. Pieta Brown - Remember The Sun possibly as well. hmmmm...I'm starting to see a theme here. I guess what I'm saying, is you need something sultry
Willie Nelson--Stardust
Greg Brown --Covenant
Cowboy Junkies--Trinity Sessions or Caution Horses
Bon Iver--For Emma, Forever Ago

Late one night/early one morning and many years ago, I made out to Side 1 of Neil Young's "Live Rust". By the time it ended, so had we.
Several years later, I made out to Chris Whitley's "Livin' with the Law", and we've been married now 16 years tomorrow!
"car wheels on a gravel road" was the soundtrack to dating the girl that I married. making dinners, killing jugs of vino, harmonizing & making love, all to Lucinda's best album.
