As you probably heard, Pete Seeger turns 90 on May 3rd, and there is a lot happening including a star-studded charity concert honoring him at Madison Square Garden. In addition, on April 21st Smithsonian Folkways is releasing the American Favorite Ballads Box Set featuring 139 classic songs of just Pete and his guitar and banjo. And like all Smithsonian Folkways releases, it includes extensive biographical and musical liner notes.

The box set is not available until April 21st but there will soon be a few free downloads and other goodies at the Smithsonian Folkways site. The digital download version also has 2 previously unreleased bonus-tracks. Join the email list (http://www.folkways.si.edu/customer_service/mailing_list.aspx) to stay up to date.

In the mean time, click here to watch an interview with Pete about his beginnings with Folkways.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I'm looking forward to all the celebrations of his birthday in the coming weeks!
Does anyone know if there will be a live feed webcast for Pete's Birthday celebration? It would be awesome to se it as it is happening. I've been searching or one but so far no luck. AT &T did a live webcast from Coachella this weekend and it got me to thinking about Pete's party at the garden.
