MARY GAUTHIER- Mercy Now, should definitely be considered.
Definitely would be in my top five.
got this one , have to revisit it !
I agree with Mercy Now
More to consider...
Gillian Welch... any of her albums.
Eileen Jewell - Sea of Tears.
Patty Griffin - Children Running Through
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
Lucinda Williams - Essence
Loretta got replaced at the last minute by M Shocked ....
I'd add:

Emmylou Harris- Wrecking Ball
Gillian Welch- Time, The Revelator
Patty Griffin- Impossible Dream
Michelle Shocked - Arkansas Traveler
Lucinda Williams - Lucinda Williams
Kelly Willis - Well Traveled Love
Lone Justice (Maria McKee) - Shelter

I'd add Toni Price, Allison Krauss, and Shelby Lynne but I don't have one favorite album of theirs
I thought I was a Kelly Willis completist but I have to admit to missing her very first one completely. I guess I have some of it on her MCA best of but looks like it's time to unleash those bloodhounds.....
Yeah, I may be prejudiced just because it was the first time I heard her way back when, and you know how the memories stick to the music, but I have always loved this album. The same is true of Lucinda William's self-titled album which I still play all these years later. I love all her work but I really like that first album a lot - great songs, great delivery.
Know what you mean about being prejudiced towards certain albums - way back when i had hair i got my first Neil Young one "OLD WAYS" after hearing bands like GREEN ON RED and THE LONG RYDERS cite him as an influence . It was just out and i loved it then worked my way backwards . It's not much rated these days but i will love it forever !
Maria McKee almost made my list with You Gotta Sin To Get Saved .
