I guess we're going to be talking a lot about gun control this year....

I imagine there's a variety of opinions on this subject at No Depression, but can you back up your opinion with a good country (whatever that is) song?

Here's some advice from the Man in Black:

That's Johnny live on the Ed Sullivan show, 1959. I was probably about the same age as the two kids, and I had a Roy Rogers outfit just like theirs. We used to watch the Ed Sullivan show every Sunday, and I might have even seen this one live...

A young cowboy named Billy Joe
Grew restless on the farm
A boy filled with wanderlust
Who really meant no harm
He changed his clothes and shined his boots
And combed his dark hair down
And his mother cried as he walked out;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town son,
Leave your guns at home Bill,
Don't take your guns to town."

He laughed and kiss his mom and said
Your Billy Joes a man
i can shoot as quick and striaght as
anybody can.
but i'd wouldn't shoot without a cause
i'd gun nobody down
but she cried again as he rode away
Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town son,
Leave your guns at home Bill,
Don't take your guns to town."

He sang a song as on he rode,
His guns hung at his hips
He rode into a cattle town,
A smile upon his lips
He stopped and walked into a bar and laid his money down
But his mother's words echoed again;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town son,
Leave your guns at home Bill,
Don't take your guns to town."

He drank his first strong liquor then to calm his shaking hand
And tried to tell himself at last he had become a man
A dusty cowpoke at his side began to laugh him down
And he heard again his mother's words;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town son,
Leave your guns at home Bill,
Don't take your guns to town."

Bill was raged and Billy Joe reached for his gun to draw
But the stranger drew his gun and fired before he even saw
As Billy Joe fell to the floor the crowd all gathered 'round
And wondered at his final words;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town son,
Leave your guns at home Bill,
Don't take your guns to town."

Four people shot at gun shows today (1/19).  I bet they feel safer now.

And today is "Gun Appreciation Day...."

But do you have a song to back it up Hal?  That's what we're looking for.

I'll look for a tune but just saw this update on CNN:

At least five people -- three in North Carolina, one in Indiana and one in Ohio -- were injured when weapons were discharged at gun shows.

Here's the Lumineers- Gun Song

The Beat Farmers - Gun Sale At The Church

Man, I love the Beat Farmers! When I was framing houses in San Diego County in the Eighties, they were the sheet...

From Lynyrd Skynyrd's Saturday Night Special:

Hand guns are made for killin'
Ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

BINGO!
