Many people are experiencing difficult times right now. Some of the troubles are, or will be, faced by all of us at one time or another - a parent in declining health, our personal wellness challenges, loss of a loved one. And the economy is causing grief, anquish and hardship for more and more folks each day.
As Tom Johnston once sang, "Music is the doctor." Music can calm, soothe, inspire, lift one's spirits. Help me. What are some songs that inspire and give you hope? Here are some of mine.
Willin' - Little Feat
I Hope You Dance - Lee Ann Womack
From A Distance - Nanci Griffith
To Live's To Fly - Townes Van Zandt
Listen To The Radio - Kathy Mattea

2. Tim O'Brien's "More Love"
3. Hank William's "Jambalaya"
4. Willie Nelson's "Hands on the Wheel." Beautiful and hopeful lines: "In the shade of an oak down by the river, set an old man and a boy; Settin' sails, spinnin' tales, and fishin' for whales; with lady that they both enjoy."

Unfortunately these songs can't even help me on this horrific day. I can't even listen to Christmas music at this time.

Some of my faves (such as Springsteen's "Land of Hope and Dreams," U2's "Beautiful Day" and the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun") have already been mentioned.
A few of my picks:
Tom Petty, "I Won't Back Down"
The Kinks, "Better Things" -- my favorite song, always works on me
Van Morrison, "Full Force Gale"
Big Star, "The Ballad of El Goodo"
