Now that a cold wild wind (in the words of Johnny Cash) has arrived and is blanketing us here in Canada with snow... I'm wondering what music gets you through the winter.
I'm home today because my town hasn't been plowed out yet. My coworker is especially trapped on a side street. I could've made it but would have had trouble finding a safe parking place. They're calling for up to 20 more centimetres for today alone.
So... winter is officially here and I'm jealous of all these places that don't have to worry about snow or deal with it.
Are you like me and love playing music that lyrically suits the moment? I'm bad for seeking out "September Morn" by Neil Diamond during said month. CCR's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" when it's raining. I guess that's just my sense of humour.
What do you turn to music-wise on a random free day? If you were fairly contained to the house, would you dig out old favourites, in this case - Christmas/holiday songs (I want to burn "Let it Snow"!), or would you turn to that pile that's been waiting for you?
I'm not going out in that unless I have to... Unfortunately... today is the release date for the New Ryan Adams & the Cardinals album. I forgot to get the mail yesterday - had to shovel out my car and could barely see due to a blizzard. Could it be there.... waiting? Oh the torture!

Permalink Reply by Will James on December 14, 2010 at 3:29pm Hey, I saw Sarnia on the News, don't know if you're near there, but at least we both understand Lake Effect. Not blaming you!
Permalink Reply by Stina on December 14, 2010 at 5:44pm Horrible there. I'm actually about 25 min from Strathroy. 45 min from London. 1 - 1 1/2 hrs to Sarnia I believe
Permalink Reply by Will James on December 14, 2010 at 6:34pm I go by there every year on my way to my place in northern Wisconsin. Sometimes it seems like the bridge is backed up to Strathroy... Seriously, that's where all our snow came from today, off Lake Huron. Looks like it started around Guelph, the heaviest line right through my town and further downstate a bit. Weird, I thought I just had to worry about Lake Erie or sometimes Ontario lake effect, guess again.
Permalink Reply by Dan Aloi on December 15, 2010 at 11:13am I played this last night in Cortland!
I will also point you all to "Five Inches of Lake Effect" and various other original weather-themed songs by Drew Minson, at freevillemusic.com under Nines Open Mic recordings.

Permalink Reply by Jack on December 14, 2010 at 6:59pm Will, somewhere upstairs in a closet I have copies of the Courier Express and Evening new from January 1977. I recall school being cancelled for the week and skiing at Kissing Bridge about 5 days that week. This latest storm wasn't nearly like that was it?
