Permalink Reply by W E B on September 12, 2012 at 7:43am I have only ever made two playlists and both of them were made on the occasion of the death of my mother in June of this year.
The first was a five song list made to accompany the photo slide show that my sisters and I had compiled, it is as follows:
Blessing; Maura O'Connell
Heavenly Day; Patty Griffin
The People You Love ; Lynn Miles
Mad World, Outlive Me; Amelia Curran
We Shall All Be Reunited; Patty Griffin
The second list was a more lengthy and more diverse selection and was used as background music which was looped over the funeral home sound system during the two days of visitation and it is as follows:
Up To The Mountain (MLK Song); Patty Griffin
Have I Told You Lately; Van Morrison
Amazing Grace; Susan Boyle
It's Only A Paper Moon; Nat King Cole Trio
Ship; Fred Eaglesmith
Sunday Best; Jeff Black
Mona Lisa; Nat King Cole Trio
Keep Me In Your Heart; Warren Zevon
Someone To Watch Over Me; Frank Sinatra
I Hear You Calling Me; Maura O'Connell
Evening In June; Van Morrison
No One Hurts Up Here; Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson
We'll Meet Again; Vera Lynn
When My Ship Comes In; Lynn Miles
Keep On The Sunny Side.. ; The Low Anthem
Noah's Ark; Jeff Black
Way Over Yonder; Carole King
Let's Just Stay Here; Carolyn Mark & NQ Arbuckle
My Melancholy Baby; Leon Redbone
Summertime; Sarah Harmer & Jason Euringer
Any Old Time; Artie Shaw & His Orchestra;Billie Holiday
Where the Whippoorwill is Whispering Goodnight; Loudon Wainwright III
All The Way; Marty Robbins
Rust; Lynn Miles
Neither of these lists were easy to create and its even tougher when you have to create them through tear filled eyes but I was more than proud that I was charged with the task....I only hope that I what I put together would have made her smile.
Rest Well Mom .... you sure has hell have earned the privilege!

Permalink Reply by Carlos Monsalve on October 19, 2012 at 10:24am My latest playlist is a work in progress. It's called "Americana 2012" and all songs are from this year. I think of playlists as a double album.
Side 1
Ho Hey - The Lumineers
Babel - Mumford and Sons
New Years Eve At The Gates of Hell - Ray Wylie Hubbard
Make The World Go Away - Jamey Johnson
I Just Started Hating Some People Today - Beck
Side 2
Emmylou- First Aid Kit
You And Me - Sara Watkins
Come All Ye Fair And Tender Ladies - The Chieftains & Pistol Annies
Tryin' To Get To Heaven - Lucinda Williams
Down In The Canyon - Heartless Bastards
Side 3
In The Beginning - Todd Snider
Brother - Lord Huron
Pretty Girl From Michigan - The Avett Brothers
New Multitudes - Jay Farrar, Andres Parker & Tim Yarrow
Movin' On - Justin Townes Earle
Side 4
Blunderbuss - Jack White
San Antonio Rain - Alejandro Escovedo
Clementine - Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Long and Wasted Years - Bob Dylan
Just Breathe - Willie Nelson & Lukas Nelson
If you want to fit this list on a CD substitute Heartless Bastards' "Down In the Canyon" with their "Parted Ways". I just saw this band at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and was very impressed.
