Thought it would be fun to have a thread for music fans to post songs, albums, or concerts that artists have made available for free download online.

I'll start the thread with the 2011 concert that Josh Ritter recently made available for free download on noisetrade.com

http://www.noisetrade.com/joshritter

(EDITORS NOTE: If you are an artist wanting to post your music on the site please post it on this discussion thread rather than here.

I'm always looking for free and legal (and high quality) downloads of all styles of music. Here's a download from NPR of 100 bands playing at this year's SXSW festival. It's available through April 1 2013 :

The music is mainly indie rock but there's some other stuff as well.

Here's NPR's site for free downloads of concerts they've recorded. All styles of music - jazz, folk, rock, electronica. The stuff I've listened to is very high quality.

Please suggest other sites for free and legal downloads!

NPR's All Songs Considered is a terrific music site.

There are literally hundreds of songs of all kinds to download free and legally from New York public radio station WNYC. There's blues, bluegrass, alt rock, jazz, classical, weird stuff, etc.

Check it out!

Thanks for the link, some good music here!

The inner Dead head in you might be interested in this site that features free and legal downloads of live shows by thousands of bands you've never heard of and a number you have heard of.  I can't attest to quality, although the ones I've listened to have been very good.  I came across a number of soundboard recordings too.  Info on recording and processing devices is included, and you can download in Lossless format for higher quality.
