The first time i saw him, i said that this dude, crowell, is one of those corny nashville singers. "rhinestone suits, new shiny cars, are you sure hank done it this way?"and then i listened to what he was saying. just like i read this article and at the end, I am paraphrazing now, "heck, i just tried to lay down some tracks." so, in the big picture, he just wants to be like a lot of good musicians feeding the muse and cutting some records and feeling good about what he's done. too bad the mondern media drags these cats and women into the fracas everytime someone releases a cd, or says something dumb or profound. get the gods off the altars and let them be.
and that is not saying crowell is a god, but he has stretched what i originally thought of him to beyond a bouffant hair do and into an acoustic guitar and some songs with real thinking behind them. laying my head on flannel sheets at night i wonder why i am pressed to go out and buy a new belt or some new boots when the kids i teach daily are scrounging for dollars and free lunches at school. all the service work i do doesn't seem to matter when egyptions are dirt poor and fighting to be heard over an oppressive government that is backed by the US. when little old women in California get ripped off by unscrupolous businessmen just to heat their homes. dude, i am feeling that shit on a daily basis.
so, god speed to Mr. Crowell and hope he continues to turn out thought provoking conscience raising music along with listening to led and metallica or whoever. JW
