I've been getting into this music more and more, and I would sure like to have a radio station to listen to. For example, iTunes lists dozens of stations, but I'm not sure which is appropriate.

Can anybody suggest a station I can find online, so that I can listen at work?

Thanks for the thanks, Jeff! I will need to check out Sugarmegs and Jango as you suggest and had forgotten about Rhapsody's 25 free songs offer. I like both Pandora and the Internet Archive is very cool well beyond music.

Speaking of the IA, I recently found out that someone went to the trouble of uploading and formatting an old interview of mine with Pat Flynn x-New Grass Revival guitarist/songwriter. I had done three interviews with Pat between 2004 and 2007 and had enjoyed every one.

I am the guy that runs the Rocketship Rodeo. There are three no depression-esque programs I listen to:

Route 78 West - Great Oldtime country, mostly from the early days of country music on 78 records. Nice pre-vinyl crackle and pops.

American Roots - Newer alt. country

Swingin' Doors - Hardcore Twang

PS I am not allowed to podcast the Rocketship Rodeo per KRUI's by-laws
I enjoy listener supported commercial free www.radioparadise.com while at work. They play a real nice mixture of stuff - you might hear Nirvana, Doc Watson, Dave Brubeck, Jayhawks and Eilin Jewell in the same set.
I find that Boot Liquor Radio has pretty good taste overall and is pretty good about discovering and featuring lesser known (but still quality) artists:

Give us a try at KWBC.FM. We are an internet pure play located deep inside the Missouri Ozarks. We stream at 3 different speeds to accommodate any listeners connection. We have a 9,500 song play list and play traditional country music (old and new) from performers all over the world. In addition we include folk, country blues, western swing, bluegrass and some early country-rock such as Roy Orbison and Neal Young. We have over 85,000 listeners in 192 countries so quite a few folks think we are pretty good. We are listener supported and do have live DJs part of the time. When we are on Radio Station Automation I think you will find us interesting as well.

We also have a huge Listener Forum for music discussions, song histories, biographies and even music videos.

Listener Forums and Music Videos:

East Tennessee's Own WDVX. A wide variety of Americana, bluegrass, country, roots rock. Consistantly good.

I am a program host/producer for "In the Tradition" on community radio WCUW in Worcester, MA. Community, low power, and college stations are your best bet for roots music.

Best way to "find" stations is to read the playlists we hosts post to listserves and determine which stations/programs are playing what you like. I post ours to FOLKDJ at http://lists.psu.edu
