Permalink Reply by Will James on May 26, 2011 at 4:43pm I saw the International Harvester tour at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee in '85. He was with Waylon. It was great, but hard-core Neil idiots next to us (hey, it's not like I don't want to hear that side too, finally did last tour) was making it tough to enjoy. But it was tremendous. I vaguely remember Grey Riders being amazing. This is what we heard:
Permalink Reply by Adam Sheets on May 26, 2011 at 7:13pm Will , that setlist is amazing and i think that would be my ultimate Neil tour !
Reason being :
As a young fan of the likes of The Smiths/Cocteau Twins/The Cure in the mid 80's , i was an avid reader of Melody Maker ( a British weekly music paper). Through this i got into that group of bands with a Country-ish tinge , Long Ryders , Green On Red etc. Whilst reading interviews with these guys , they would always mention Neil Young and his massive influence on their music . This made me very curious but due to finances and buying tons of new stuff at the time , i didnt actually check the guy out. Then , along came Old Ways. Country music had started to intrigue me and the prospect of this album , well , it thrilled me. I bought the record the week it came out and i absolutely loved it to bits and i still do . I have since bought 90% of the mans output but Old Ways has a special place in my heart and its "Country" Neil i still love the best . Old Ways and American StarsnBars,.......wow ! It was weird in subsequent years hearing that some diehard Neil fans hated his direction in these years , i came on board at this time so i see neil in that light , always will !
I'm certainly looking forward to A Treasure more than any of the other Archives Live albums and hope for lots more on Archives 2 , lots of unreleased "country" Neil studio stuff , i hope.........
