Can anyone name some good songs about disliking one's mother-in-law?  I have issues.

Etta James - My Mother In Law from the album Tell Mama is a great one.

I tried to find a video or stream of Etta James doing the song that I could embed here but nothing turned up. You can stream part of  the song on Amazon at this link, or I did find this video by Charlotte Joyce, who I'd never heard of.  Her version is exactly the same as Etta's so it's not a bad representation of the song and you can hear all the lyrics but for the full effect you must listen to Etta!

Thanks, Kyla!

Kyla--this is great.  Very cathartic.   Just what the doctor ordered.

Shawn, this ought to do the trick.  "Mother-In-Law by Ernie K-Doe.

(Mother in Law) Mother In Law
(Mother in Law) Mother In Law

The worst person I know
(Mother-in law, mother-in law)
(Mother-in law, mother-in law)
A she worries me, so
If she'd leave us alone
A we would have a happy home
Sent from down below

Mother in Law Mother in Law

Satan should be her name
To me they're bout the same
Every time I open my mouth
She steps in, tries to put me out
How could she stoop so low

[Instrumental Interlude]

I come home with my pay
She asks me what I made
She thinks her advice is the constitution
But if she would leave that would be the solution
And don't come back no more

Mother in law
My......mother in law, ah
Oh yeah

Thanks, Jack.  I'll have to look into that one.

What if your mother-in-law buys you a copy of a disc from the "Worthless Son-in-Laws"!

Worthless Son-in-Laws

No, I'm not making that band up.

There is "Mother in law blues" by Johnny Winter on the Rasing Cane record, and Bruce Springsteen has one on The River "Rosey Darling" in which the mother in law is in the cars back seat and she is bitchin' a fit and the character of the song warns Rosey to "shut her up or she'll be hittin' the black top, hope that helps!

Scott, are you sure that's the correct title of the Springsteen song?  I've got The River album right in front of me and don't see a tune by that name.

It's that or Darkness on the edge of Town try the name Sherry Darling, for the song   that name sticks in my head too.

You're right, Scott--it is "Sherry Darling."  I hadn't listened to that one since I got married and didn't remember much about it--I guess it didn't seem all that applicable to my own life back when I was single.  It sure strikes a responsive chord now, though.  Thanks!

just came across a version of mother- in law by gary paxton

on a cd of songs all with clarence white on guitar called "tuff and stringy"
