Permalink Reply by Jack Williams on December 1, 2011 at 4:58am Any album in particular or the artist in general? If the latter, you're on the wrong thread.

Permalink Reply by Will James on December 1, 2011 at 8:26am @Jack W, as they (not me) used to say, different strokes... I agree with Andy (Welch, a critic's darling), blasphemy here I know, but boring. I do however agree (with others) that Pet Sounds *is* a great album, probably tied for greatest together with Love's Forever Changes and Band's Big Pink.
Permalink Reply by Jack Williams on December 1, 2011 at 10:03am Will, just meant that if Andy's comment was on the artist as a whole, then there's another thread for that. But now I see he's identified The Harrow and the Harvest. Me, I like the album a lot. One of my favorites this year, but wouldn't say it's a classic.
Permalink Reply by Will James on December 1, 2011 at 10:10am Need to give it a listen. Have to admit I'm a bit confused (and innocent? per Hal??) about the concept of this thread. Love her Orphan Girl by Dan Lanois via Emmy Harris.

Permalink Reply by Jack Williams on December 1, 2011 at 9:48am OK. Thanks.
Permalink Reply by Jack Williams on December 1, 2011 at 5:11am I'm just way too humble to say that they're overrated, but they just didn't take:
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention - We're Only In It For the Money
Radiohead - Kid A (I even bought Isomniac after this one because surely I'd love them both eventually, Uh, no.)
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (white hip hop is still too hip hop for me, I guess)
And lastly (gulp):
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
What can I say? I liked Wouldn't it Be Nice. Heard how it was such a classic album. Their Sgt Pepper (which, by the way, is clearly NOT overrated! Ha, ha.). Bought it as I thought it might be the Beach Boys album that I would actually like a lot. Left me a little cold, though. Guess I'm just not a Beach Boys kind of guy.
Permalink Reply by Brendan Cooke on December 1, 2011 at 7:30am but on the latter I can't agree Jack...Pet Sounds was a groundbreaking album and in any case is certainly not overrated underrated!
Permalink Reply by Jack Williams on December 1, 2011 at 9:45am Brendan, I would never say that Pet Sounds is overrated. More that I have a blind spot where it concerned and for the Beach Boys in general. Hey, some people don't get the Beatles or Bob Dylan and I love both with a passion. I think my problem with the Beach Boys is too much pop and not enough punch. Or earthiness. Or something. No doubt it's a personal problem. Cheers.
