In the Tradition 9/13, The Bill Monroe Centennial Celebration

This evening, 5-8pm eastern, on Worcester MA community radio WCUW, 91.3fm and streaming at wcuw.org.

William Smith Monroe (September 13, 1911 – September 9, 1996) was an American musician who created the style of music known as bluegrass, which takes its name from his band, the "Blue Grass Boys," named for Monroe's home state of Kentucky. Monroe's performing career spanned 60 years as a singer, instrumentalist, composer and bandleader. He is often referred to as "The Father of Bluegrass."

The program will celebrate Bill Monroe's life and legacy. Confirmed guests by phone:
* Bill Keith, one time "Blue Grass Boy"
* Lorin Rowan, Peter's younger brother, who will talk about Bill's tour bus pulling into the yard of the family home in Wayland, Mass. when he was a teenager.
* Chris Wuerth, concert promoter, who will be presenting Peter Rowan (a one-time member of the "Blue Grass Boys") and Tony Rice in a Bill Monroe tribute tour.
