I can't believe until Rys comment this thread was dead. pretty rich territory. i like someones idea of before uncle tupelo and after uncle tupelo,(who were game changers. hard to think of of a band that broke up and actually heralded a new scene. so here goes.

I had to include blues. I guess Dobson's the sleeper. All Music Guide has never reviewed any albums by "The Hemingway of country music," as Nanci Griffith calls him. His Townes disc is fabulous but among his albums of originals try "Blue Collar Blues." You may need to order online.
