Jeez ......Kristofferson , Townes , Guy Clark , Flatlanders , Great Speckled Bird.......it's impossible , WHY DID YOU MAKE ME START !

My problem is drawing the line between what's alt-country and what's not. If you take it to mean "anything but Nashville" then that opens up the door to the outlaws, bluegrass, etc. But most on this list should like the following:

Toni Price - Low Down and Up
Shelby Lynne - I Am Shelby Lynne
Carlene Carter - Blue Nun
David Bromberg - Try Me One More Time
Skeeter Davis and NRBQ - She Sings, They Play
Hot Club of Cowtown - Ghost Train
Kristofferson - Silver Toungued Devil
Eliza Gylkison - Beautiful World
Nickel Creek - Why Should the Fire Die
Kim Richey - Glimmer
Resentments - Sunday Night Lineup

I guess Rhonda Vincent is too bluegrass and not enough "alt" but I sure like her albums.
Patty Loveless may be too mainstream but she sure is great - check out both Mountain Soul albums.
