I don't know if I'd call the Dixie Chicks alt.country?

In no particular order

The Handsome Family - In The Air

Silver Jews - Lookout Mountain Lookout Sea

Son Volt - Trace

The Arlenes - Stuck On Love

Kasey Chambers - Wreck and Ruin

Magnolia Electric co - Fading Trails

Green On Red {if that counts} - This Time Around

You better believe Green On Red counts my friend, brilliant band. I'm fond of Scapegoats myself , a great album that's long overdue a decent reissue !

And , yep, Magnolia Electric Co as well, i was listening to What Comes After The Blues on Sunday , first time in ages, class. I'll get Fading Trails on tonight when i'm having a few beers.

Good picks !

Green On Red are one of my all time favourite bands {I was privileged to see them live in London a few years back}, and it was a toss up between Scapegoats or This Time around, {heck all their albums are good!}

I also love most of Chuck Prophets solo output, so should have included an album of his in there.

Cheers.

Love Green On Red. The BBC sessions released a few years back is an excellent addition to their recorded canon. "Ballad Of Guy Fawkes" from "No Free Lunch" is still one of my all-time fave alt-country tunes.

First post. Hard to pass up this topic.

Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks

Josh Ritter - The Animal Years/Golden Age of Radio

Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway

Bruce Springsteen - Ghost of Tom Joad

Crooked Fingers - Dignity & Shame

Drive-By Truckers - Decoration Day

Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker

Uncle Tupelo - Anodyne

Califone - Roots & Crowns

Townes Van Zandt - Live at the Old Quarter

A.A. Bondy - American Hearts

Dawes - North Hills

Gillian Welch - Soul Journey

Joe Pug - The Great Despiser

Patterson Hood - Killers & Stars

Patty Griffin - 1000 Kisses

Steve Earle - Townes

Wilco - Being There

Tom Waits - Mule Variations

John Prine - John Prine

What a task! tried getting down to favourite 10, but that was impossible and only made it down to 20, on the basis of most played and only one album per artist. So here goes, in no particular order:

Patty Griffin - 1000 Kisses

Gram Parsons - Grievous Angel

Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker

Danny Schmidt - Instead the Forest rose to Sing

Rose Cousins - The Send Off

Jayhawks - Rainy day Music

Jorma Kaukonen - Blue Country Heart

Jeffrey Foucault - Ghost repeater

Lori McKenna - Lorraine

Deep Dark Woods - Place I left behind

Kasey Chambers/Shane Nicholson - Rattlin Bones

Brett Dennen - Loverboy

Gretchen Peters - Hello Cruel World

Last Train Home - Last Good Kiss

Jason Isbell - Here we Rest

Steve Forbert - Mission of the Crossroad Palm

Lucinda Williams - Lucinda Williams

Pinmonkey - Big Shiny Cars

Mando Saenz - Watertown

Shannon McNally - Jukebox Sparrows

and Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues  - - - oops that's 21

Kelly Willis is one very under rated lady. Her work from her debut has a quality about it few artists achieve over a run of albums.

Having read through the entire thread this afternoon I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned Rod Picott. For those who love Fred Eaglesmith and Slaid Cleaves, Rod is a shoo-in. Try his debut "Tiger Tom Dixons' Blues", the follow-up "Stray Dogs" or last years "Welding Burns" for starters.

I would have included kelly Willis as she is one of my favourite singers - great voice - but I took the view that she was out and out country so slightly off thread

Old 97's -- Too Far To Care, Fight Songs, Wreck Your Life

Ryan Adams -- Heartbreaker, Gold

Whiskeytown -- Stranger's Almanac

Drive By Truckers -- Decoration Day

Kelly Willis -- Easy

Mandy Barnett -- Got A Right To Cry

Cracker -- Medicine Hat

Twelve-Gauge Persuaders -- Crumble

Jayhawks -- Sound of Lies, Hollywood Town Hall

Hayes Carll -- KMAG YOYO

Ray Wylie Hubbard -- Snake Farm, A: Enlightenment...

Waylon Jennings -- Honky Tonk Heroes
