I'm not sure what 'alt' really means, and there are a lot of artists listed in the posts that I've never even heard of. Anyway, a few of my favourite albums, that I've bought over the last year or so, might qualify? These are :

Great call on Broke Down and Jack's Crows, would not leave home without them, try Emmylou Harris "Wrecking Ball" it is of the best quality.

Kasey Chambers' first two solo albums were great Americana, if that's what you can still call it when it's an Aussie artist.
