I want something twangy but fast. Uncle Tupelo and Slobberbone, The Gourds and Two Cow Garage type stuff, but fast, fast , fast. Like a Hoedown on meth.
Anything like that?

Permalink Reply by Anna VanHorn on May 9, 2012 at 10:19am You are looking for Mountain Sprout. "Hoedown on Meth" is probably in their bio somewhere, I'm not kidding. They're from the Ozark Mountains, real hillbillies, and their shows and songs are freakin' rowdy. Twang to spare and fast, fast, fast.
Here's their website: http://www.mountainsprout.com
And a youtube link to their song "Turkey Buzzard" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr1mMlA1np4
And another to their song "Tweeker" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7PzsssoaqA
Let me know if you like it!
Also worth a listen: from Arkansas - Cletus Got Shot. And of course, Split Lip Rayfield from Kansas.
Faster and LLouder - Foster and Lloyd - several cuts that meet requirements. Most of their albums will have something to please you - make a mix!
Permalink Reply by Terry Roland on May 9, 2012 at 2:50pm I love this! I first heard the term 'cowpunk' associated with Jason and the Scorchers.....I'd really suggest digging through the archives for them.....Jason's 'Farmer Jason' now doing some fine music for kids...His last CD even had Hank lll as one of his guests. But, the original band were high powered and fast and no one knew what the hell punk was doing anywhere near country music.......
Also, Long Ryders and check early K.D. Lang and the Reclines...Her first album, Angel with a Lariat was pretty reved up(produced by Dave Edmunds) before she went totally retro.....with Shadowlands

Have not found anything to compare to this.
Maybe Nine Pound Hammer ? I'm looking more for the electrical sound vs. Acoustic.
Thanks for all the suggestions !

Permalink Reply by Harry Steinmetz on August 17, 2012 at 12:07pm The Beat Farmers "Loud and Plowed" is a terrific live album that should get you jones on. There is also a guest appearance by Mojo Nixon. Wild, crazy and good times.
