thanks Kyla !
The Knitters is another good one.
Oh Kyla that's a true one from the cobwebs ! i had their debut (was it Poor Little Critter On The Road , long lost i'm afraid .)
It was hard to get a lot of this stuff in Scotland in the 80's and i was an object of ridicule amongst my post punk / alternative loving crowd , i'd play them Gram singing " where i got chores to keep me busy , a clock to keep my time , a pretty girl to love me , with the same last name as mine " and they would PISS themselves laughing , even my best friends ! I came through though and now turn them on some great stuff , i got the last laugh !
The Miracle Legion
The Iron City Houserockers
That guy Joe somebody ? , sure i got him doing a Bruce cover ?
Joe Grushecky
Joe Ely? Is that who you're thinking of? He's another good one for sure.
Love his Honky Tonk Masquerade and the next 2 or 3 that came after it .
Stevie, get his late 90's masterpiece Letter To Laredo, it's the best thing in his excellent catalog.

Noticed you were trying to think of a Springsteen song by a guy named Joe, might that have been Springsteen singing on Joe's tune All Just To Get To You, the first tune on Letter To Laredo?
I agree with everybody that some Joe Ely is certainly needed. But I think who he was referring to was Joe Grushecky after I mentioned Joe's band the Iron City Houserockers. And Grushecky has worked very closely with Springsteen over the years, even co-writing a few songs with him.
