I Was talking about box sets with one of my friends and we started talking about which were the best and I said My favorites are Hank Williams complete box set and Merle Haggard Down Every Road.
And I was wondering what other people thought the best box sets are ?.

Permalink Reply by Rudyjeep on December 15, 2010 at 12:27pm The Clash on Broadway is great. Hey Ron - are you selling the Louis Jordon?
Permalink Reply by ron victor on December 15, 2010 at 8:43pm no i just got it it- its available on amazon at around the same price you'd pay for 1 cd retail!!
Permalink Reply by Jack on December 15, 2010 at 12:56pm Gordon Lightfoot - Songbook
The Blasters - Testament: The Complete Slash Recordings
Permalink Reply by Adam Sheets on December 15, 2010 at 1:28pm Anything Bear Family has released has been pretty great.
Other than that, the three Elvis decade sets ('50s, '60s, and '70s), Johnny Cash's Unearthed and The Complete Sun Recordings,
As for multi-artist sets, The Anthology of American Folk Music still reigns supreme, but I'd also throw in Goodbye Babylon (anything from Dust-to-Digital really), Good for What Ails You: Music of the Medicine Shows, and People Take Warning: Murder Ballads and Disaster Songs. And I almost forgot Nuggets, the great garage band anthology.
The "best of " disc in Unearthed was a total waste of time and money though surely ?
It should have been released seperately (making the box set cheaper) to hook new fans in , anyone forking out for the box would already have been a convert and had all those songs .
