Hello Friends,
My current project The Knuckles released an album in November, we have been around for years but this project is new and we are new to SoCal (orig from NorCal).

It has been a nightmare breaking into any sort of decent venue in LA, the agents are unresponsive and opportunities are almost non-existent because they are reserved for the "elite", whom often are not sounding that good and even more often are not drawing a crowd. It is mind boggling.

The Album is getting a great response, we have a following who wants to see us play...
So... what is the trick?
PAYING to play 30 minute sets, playing in empty no-name bars, or simply giving up - seem to be the only realistic options for a band with 15 years performing experience and a excellent set of original California Roots Music.

Advice welcome.

Just an idea... Get together with two or three other roots oriented acts and sell yourselves as a packeage to an interested venue owner. Preferably a venue that features roots/Americana music to like minded audiences. The idead for this is to:
1. Create a buzz
2. Create an event
3. Increase the drawing potential
4. Form a community of like minded individuals (bands, musicians) in order to create your own events.
Does this sound about right?

Seriously though, Craig's ideas are great. You'll have a better chance of getting a gig if you can present the booking agent a bill with good draw potential and a plan for how you will promote and market the show to get people out. Ultimately they are looking to get people in the door.

Thanks Craig and Kyla.
Love the video... exactly.

I have been making efforts to team up with some like minded/sounding acts. It too is a challenging undertaking in this town but I do believe it is a good method to help get into venues so I will keep at it.

Appreciate the feedback and advice.
