Wondering what other people are listening to. My favorite by far is WXPN from Philadelphia. I first discovered them through the "World Cafe" program streamed by NPR. It's a great source of new music. It's rare for me to turn on WXPN and not enjoy what they're playing. Another favorite is "The Current" from Minnesota Public Radio. They throw in a little more hip-hop than I care for, but even most of that is pretty good.
My favorite is WNCW in Spindale, NC. They signed on the air almost 20 years ago. At that time, WNCW stood for Western North Carolina's Window (on the world). They cover it all, from bluegrass to cajun, Frank Zappa, Alt, Blues, you name (and if it's good) they play it. Check it out. http://www.wncw.org
on the home page you can type an artist name, for example Guy Clark, then you'll be taken to the artist page. on the page find "play ___ radio" link. It will play that artist and other similar and just keep on going. The best part is that you can change up the vibe by finding an artist you are in the mood for and clicking to listen to the artist station. Doesn't get any better than that!
Try wdvx out of Knoxville. It’s a real radio station, with live deejays, but no commercials because it’s listener supported. Great Americana mixes, plus dedicated shows for bluegrass, blues, songwriters, etc. Excellent sounding 128k stream. www.wdvx.com. Also, live sets by Americana greats every day at noon Eastern.
