Well.....I guess someone has to be the grinch.  Might as well be me....

Thirty five years in retail may have left me a bit jaded.....

John Prine - Christmas in Prison

A live track from his 1973 triumph “Sweet Revenge,” assuming the perspective of a lovesick jailbird. “The search light in the big yard / Swings ‘round with the gun / And spotlights the snowflakes / Like the dust in the sun / It's Christmas in prison / There'll be music tonight / I'll probably get homesick / I love you, goodnight.”

Here's my short list:

1. "Fairytale of New York" - The Pogues

2. "The Rebel Jesus" - Jackson Browne

3. "Christmas Morning" - Lyle Lovett

4. "Christmas Must Be Tonight" - The Band

5.  "Mrs. Claus' Kimono" - Drive-By Truckers

6. "Merry Christmas from the Family" - Robert Earl Keen

7. "Nothing But a Child" - Steve Earle

8.  "Bluegrass, White Snow" - Patty Loveless

Mary Gauthier's "Christmas in Paradise"   ..."Davey stole a Christmas tree from KMart last night ..."

Thanks for that. That's my one of my faves!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this song yet.  Funny....Sad....touching.

I want to second Hayes Carll's 'Grateful for Christmas'!

Once you're all depressed from listening to that one, dispell the blues by listening to 'Lovely Christmas' by Jason Ringenberg and Kristi Rose and 'Yes Virginia' by Scott Miller.

Here is a great new holiday song inspired by my moving to New Orleans 16 years back.

Please write some more songs for Black Santa as mine is one of the few. There is also a book!!!

Enjoyed the song and the video Jamie!

Thnx so much..

Chris Rea..Driving home for Christmas..I love it..
