EDITORIAL FAQ

Where should I send music to be considered for review?
For starters, it's a good idea to send it to our editor, Peter Blackstock. Peter accepts postal submissions and is open to receiving email submissions.

Snail mail goes to:
Peter Blackstock
No Depression
112 Briarcliff Drive
Mebane, NC 27302

You are also welcome to send your music to any of our various associate editors listed on our contact page.
If there's another writer whose byline you've seen regularly on our site, you can send an e-mail to our editor for more information.

Where should I send email press releases about my artist or an artist I represent?
You're welcome to add our editor, Peter Blackstock, and our news editor, Kim Ruehl, to your e-mail lists. Should you also wish to add our senior editors and contributing editors to your email lists, you may inquire with them (via their addresses below) for permission to do so.

What are the chances of my record getting reviewed on NoDepression.com?
We generally end up reviewing about 5-10% of all music submitted to us. We try to strike a balance between major-, indie-, and self-released music. We do not review demos. Because of the volume of e-mails and music we receive, we are unable to give you personalized feedback.

Will you review our record if we buy an ad?
No such guarantees are made. Ever. We take our ethics seriously, and the separation between editorial decisions and advertising sales is and should be very much like the constitutional separation of church and state, in our view. We do review plenty of records that are also advertised on noepression.com but the purchase of an ad has no influence whatsoever on our consideration of records we choose to review.

I'm interested in writing for NoDepression.com – how should I proceed?
We have an extensive crew of regular contributors, although we occasionally bring new writers into our ranks. A good place to start is to send samples of your published work to our editor; an e-mail links to your clips is fine, as are hard-copy clips sent snail mail.

What if I'm an illustrator or photographer?
Our budget for original art is limited but you are welcome to drop a line to our editor if you have digital images or illustrations that might be of interest to us. If we like your work, we'll do our best to find a way to use it.
